Reading Book Recommendations

We are often asked for recommendations for books. Children differ a great deal in taste and stamina, so it can be hard, but here are some suggestions for websites that may help.

The LoveReading4Schools Website -https://www.lovereading4schools.co.uk - has recommended book lists organised by year group.  You will need to register (free!) at https://www.lovereading4schools.co.uk/parents and then you can search for Chalford Hill by name or postcode (GL6 8LG) - https://www.lovereading4schools.co.uk/viewschool/9770/favourite.  The Chalford Hill parents password is: reading

You can browse the booklists for your child’s age group and even download open passages. If you buy books from the site the school gets a spin-off, but we would also recommend supporting your local bookshop!

If your child has really enjoyed a book that’s not on the list and you would like to suggest it for addition, email us at reading.lead@chalfordhill.gloucs.sch.uk.  Don’t forget to say which year group list the book is for. We will aim to update the lists every couple of months.

Other book recommendations and reading resources may be found at the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education website -https://www.clpe.org.uk/corebooks/

Another source would be Pie Corbett’s Reading Spine - essential reading for each year group: https://www.scholastic.co.uk/piecorbett/resources.

Otherwise, you might try http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/index.php.  Type in the title of a book your child has enjoyed and find a recommendation (although this list is more adult oriented).
